How to cut stair stringers. Here’s a quick 101 on how to layout and cut stringers. Stair gauges are great for clamping onto your framing square. They’re cheap and simple. There’s some other cool alternatives to those stair gauges that might make more sense if you’re doing this work often. I may only cut one set of stringers per year at this point in my life so these are fine for me. Attaching PVC blocks to the bottom of the stringer is one of the cooler tricks I’ve learned from IG.
