Red Shoulder Hawk mating season is underway in our parks! These beautiful hawks have been observed recently at Stillwater Prairie Reserve, Hobart Urban Nature Preserve and Charleston Falls Preserve performing their territorial breeding calls and flights! Red-shouldered Hawks are monogamous. Pairs usually remain in the same territories and reuse the same nest-sites for many years. This red-shouldered hawk was found in a yard standing, head dropping and eyes closed. As the finder approached the bird it was obvious the bird was sick because it did not move or attempt to fly. The bird came in with a neurological disease of unknown origin. When the bird was first admitted we provided supportive care with fluids and Chinese herbs. As the bird started to recover we offered some food. The bird kept improving and becoming more active, so we moved the bird to our outside flight en
