Yellow box junctions: what are the rules and how can I avoid a fine?

In the past few weeks I have been looking at options to improve the junction between Swindon Road and Hobley Drive together with local residents. Many thanks to the local residents who put forward their views on this topic. I came up with 3 options: 1. A box junction on both sides of the road. 2. Delaying the timing of the traffic lights to help clear the junction. 3. Upgrading the traffic lights to become staggered traffic lights.
