Digital rectal exams (DRE) are an important part of our physical exams. Sometimes they’re forgotten - either due to patient personality or tolerance, the need for PPE, or just not thinking they’re a priority during the exam. In emergency situations it seems particularly important! This paper looked at 440 client owned dogs and found that a rectal changed not only their diagnostic plan, but their treatment plan.
