I don’t know how many compost tumblers I’ve seen struggle due to poor drainage and aeration (it’s a lot). So these days I approach every single one with my power drill whirring and pop a few dozen holes all around. Works a treat. I also make sure I have good ratios of carbon and nitrogen (roughly 50/50 in volume) and chop/ mulch them up real good. Finally, I favour compost tumblers that sit horizontal (like this one in the photo) instead of the vertical ones as they’re easier to turn. Photo by @
