Any fire in a skyscraper is an emergency. But if that fire causes structural collapse, it puts the lives of everyone in and around the building at risk, turning a serious incident into a disaster. That's why it's important to have fire codes for building design. Those codes are shaped by experiments like this one, in which portions of a building are burned in a lab. In this test, NIST scientists constructed two floors of a building inside their fire research laboratory, and they used hydraulics
