Jump rope is a full-body workout challenging the cardiovascular and muscular systems (legs, arms, shoulders). It's a weight-bearing exercise, so it's beneficial for bone health, yet it can have a lower impact depending on the jumping surface and better on the joints than running, mainly if done right, like jumping on the balls of your feet.
