The technique used in this example is ‘Imitative counterpoint’. In music theory, counterpoint is the relationship of two or more simultaneous musical lines that are harmonically dependent on each other, yet independent in rhythm and melody. ‘Imitative counterpoint’ is a technique where a theme is introduced by one voice and then imitated by another voice. The term ‘counterpoint’ originates from the Latin ‘punctus contra’ punctum meaning “point against point”, i.e. “note against note”. #classical
