PBY Catalina “Flying Boat”, which had seen action in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Acquired by the Palm Springs Air Museum in 2007. It was restored to military markings with nose art picturing Howard’s wife, Harriet. I sure do miss this old gal! This PBY Catalina was locally based for many years. It was flown down to Florida to film Indianapolis when the pilots forgot to seal the hull and the poor bird started to take on water. They managed to beach it, then got it floating, but unfortunately the tragically inept recovery crew managed to tear the bird apart as they attempted to lift it onto a barge. #PBY #flyingboat #warbirds #wwii #fighterplane #airshow #rrmerlin #radialengine #aviationphotography #pilotlif
